Commitment to
Sustainability and Quality
in Pine Production.

FORESTRY COMPANY

With over 50 years’ experience in the forestry sector, we are an example of commitment to sustainability and quality in pine production.

Spread over 14 municipalities in the region, the commercial forests cover an area of 12,000 hectares, distributed over several farms within a radius of 150 km from the industrial plant, ensuring our self-sufficiency. We follow strict quality and sustainability standards, which has resulted in FSC® certification for Forest Management.

We have our own clonal orchards, where seeds are collected and undergo processes of sowing, germination in a greenhouse, classification, and growth in an open environment. To maintain a high-quality forest, we continually invest in the genetic improvement of our forests. These are subjected to strict quality control from seedling production to final cutting.

In-house and outsourced teams are responsible for cultivating the forests, using manual and semi-mechanized methods. Our investments in high-tech equipment for forest harvesting provide both efficiency and the necessary care at this stage of the process

PINE LOGS

Our logs are produced in accordance with the standards of Quality of Improved Genetic Material and Forest Management.

In order for the planting to achieve the best forest growth and quality, a number of factors are assessed, such as the region’s soil, climate, and topography. With this, the specific genetic material most suitable for planting is selected.

The logs go through a quality process in the field that guarantees efficiency and quality for the customer. They are destined for a multi-purpose market, where any type of processing can be carried out.

SEEDS AND SEEDLINGS

São Manoel Forestry Company offers, through research and the Forest Nursery, the sale of Pinus taeda seeds and seedlings. The seeds come from our own Clonal Seed Orchards (CSO), with a rigorous selection of the finest trees, guaranteeing excellent development in the field and high forest productivity. The seedlings undergo rigorous quality control and are only made available after being audited, meeting the quality standards demanded by the market, such as height, collar diameter, and a well developed root system.

Forest

The forestry sector has stood out strongly due to its economic viability in Brazil and around the world. Paraná has one of the best soils in Brazil, as well as a favorable climate and temperature for the good development of planted forests. Santa Maria, with over 50 years of experience in forestry, paper, and energy, offers rural landowners an investment opportunity.

The Forest Partnership allows farmers to diversify their property without investment and with good financial returns. We have achieved excellent results in our forestry business, through the development of research, the production of seedlings in our own nursery, and the implementation, maintenance, and management of forests.

Find out more about Santa Maria’s Forest Partnership Program, request a visit from our technical manager by calling 42 3621.4066 or accessing the contact form.

Become a forest partner, invest in your future!

WHAT IS THIS PROGRAM ABOUT?

The program consists of setting up afforestation or reforestation with common interests and benefits between rural landowners in the region and the company. It aims to encourage small, medium, and large producers to plant forests when the soil and climate conditions are favorable. The initiative contributes to local economic development, enables the practice of environmental conservation, and provides another source of income for rural producers in the countryside

HOW DOES IT WORK?

In this partnership, the rural landowner makes all or part of his property available and the company carries out the necessary services to establish, maintain, and manage the forest until it is cut down.

WHO CAN BECOME A PARTNER?

Rural producers located within a radius of up to 150 km from Santa Maria’s industrial unit, which is located in the municipality of Guarapuava – PR.

HOW TO BECOME A FOREST PARTNER?

Contact the company on (42) 3621 4066 and request a visit from the technical manager at your rural property. An assessment will be made of the actual planting area. Make sure the property’s documentation is up to date. After analyzing the property and the owner’s documentation, the contract will be drawn up, and the company will map out the area to be planted. Both parties will then sign the contract and the company will begin operating.

Research is a fundamental pillar in the search for high value-added products that meet customer demands. São Manoel Forestry Company, in partnership with the Federal University of Paraná, developed a Genetic Improvement program in the first decades of the 2000s. This program has resulted in the availability of high-quality clonal orchard seeds and seedlings, contributing to self-sufficiency in pine seed production. In addition, the company carries out continuous tests to identify materials that are best suited to local environmental conditions, ensuring constant genetic improvement.

SEEDLING NURSERY

The seedling quality is fundamental to the success of São Manoel Forestry Company commercial forests. The company has its own clonal orchards, from where the seeds are collected. These seeds go through a process in the nursery, which includes sowing, germination in the greenhouse, sorting, and growth in the open environment. This whole process takes around seven months and results in the production of up to 700,000 pine seedlings a year. The use of automated irrigation and fertigation, combined with quality control, ensures robust seedling development and high forest productivity.

Harvest

Mechanized

The investments in high-tech equipment for forest harvesting provide both efficiency and the necessary care at this stage of the process. Mechanized harvesting is fast, efficient, and ensures quality from cutting to delivery to the customer. The process includes microplanning, road preparation, felling, delimbing, tree processing, forwarding, and loading onto transport trucks. This optimized approach ensures that the product meets the customer’s specifications

What is

Silviculture

Silviculture is the science that studies and correctly treats the cultivation of forests. This activity is responsible for maintaining forests with quality, low cost, and greater productivity, creating a production cycle that does not harm the environment. For this activity, the company relies on both in-house and outsourced teams. Manual and semi-mechanized methods are used to achieve the best utilization and maintenance of the forests, considering their ecological, scientific, economic, and social importance.
